We all need a break sometime, and what better way to unwind than watching and learning about some of the most top-notch modern day builds in the world!

If you’re in construction here are some interesting TV shows highlighting extreme engineering and construction builds in the world. (These are not listed in any special order)
1. MegaStructures
If you want an in-depth look of today’s modern day constructions and how they are being engineered around the world this show is for you. It highlights the challenges and demands that come along with these huge construction/reconstruction visions. Some projects include Dubai’s Dream palace, Worlds Biggest Casino or Abu Dhabi’s round skyscraper.

2. Extreme Engineering
Curious about what will go into the future of construction MEGA projects? Extreme Engineering has 9 seasons and is focuses on futuristic engineering structures and how they are developed like Mumbai’s modern airport, Space Tower, or Amsterdam’s futuristic floating city to name a few. Extreme Engineering aka Build it Bigger is a documentary television series that is aired on the Discovery Channel and Science Channel. They received the Discovery Channels Second-Highest Weeknight rating for 2002.2

3. Building Wild
Do you have cabin fever? Want to know what it takes to build you dream home in the woods? The Build it Wild show is hosted by cabin kings Paulie and Tuffy – they develop some wild pieces of property in just ONE WEEK. Airing on the National Geographic Channel, the cabin kings take you on a full ride from start to finish.
This show is not quite about MEGA construction, but is very entertaining and very interesting. See how they battle the elements, pilot huge machinery and produce these backwoods paradises – check it out on the National Geographic Channel or iTunes.
4. Ultimate Factories
Have you ever wondered how a four door sedan can have the same power as a sports car or how those potato chips have just the right amount of crisp? 3 Innovation is key here for the Ultimate Factories TV series. This documentary style show can be found on the National Geographic Channel which gives you a comprehensive overview of how goods are made worldwide and the inner workings of factories. 4

Let’s not forget about the kids who probably one day will be operating one of these “Mighty Machines”. Inspire or nurture your kid(s) interest in construction early on. This show was nominated for a Gemini award for best children’s series. Might Machines is a Canadian children’s series which teaches kids about the inner workings of machines and what they are used for.5
This show is great to teach kids about how roads, sidewalks, plants and sky scrapers are built and the machines needed. 6

6. Modern Marvels
Technology is making a big impact on the construction industry and Modern Marvels puts it to the test for all to see. It is a TV series that is aired on the History Channel that focuses on engineering, mechanics, architecture, manufacturing, science, and much more. Learn about the innovative technologies and man-made construction phenomena’s like the Golden Gates Bridge, Great Wall of China, the Atlantic Wall and other mega buildings in today’s society.7
